The artist: Marjon Katerberg is a painter, sculptor and certified teacher who lives and works in Amsterdam. Her projects are aimed at fine arts, portraits, murals, community art, sandsculptures, and incompany art projects. In her atelier she teaches group courses and individuals on request, or helps them create their own work for special occasions. She travels the world for sand and ice projects, but considers her studio in Amsterdam Noord her home base. Marjon feels privileged to be able to make her passion -creating art- into a lifestyle and hopes to share that happiness with others, whether working together or providing things of beauty for audiences to enjoy.
Stool pigeons: It‘s a huge mistake pigeons didn’t end up carrying the Coat of Arms of the city of Amsterdam, deserving that honor as probably the most spotted animal in town. No doubt their reputation as ‘roof rats’ -that shit all over your laundry- wasn’t a recommendation for the prestigious job, so we Amsterdammers chose lions instead. Boring, but one apparently needs to keep up with the neighbors…
Everywhere in the city you’ll find pigeons on the prowl. For tourists fun to feed, although not always voluntarily: in no-time the cheeky bastards steal the proverbial cheese from, ànd your sandwich!
When asked to design a work of art for this wall in this restaurant, the choice was easy. Stool-pigeons: Where doves are seen, there is food to be found! Supersized birds surround you, while you work or just hang here with friends, eyeing your food and every move. So, don’t pick your nose while reading your screen and guard your plate!
The mural is a combination of drawing, painting and carving, forming the pigeons in relief.
Location: You can find the mural in the back of the restaurant
