The artist: When Lars Beekman was 20 years old he started to be amazed by the big posters in the bus stops and he wanted to be able to create those too. This is how he started as an assistant photographer in the fashion and media photography. After 8 years he was able to focus on his own creations, now almost 20 years later he has made plenty of photo series all over the world. He started making his infra-red series in 2018 to show a new world. A world that surprises and amazes you, a world with hidden beauty!

Chernobyl infra-red series: The Chernobyl disaster was a nuclear accident that occurred on Saturday 26 April 1986, at the No. 4 nuclear reactor in the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, near the city of Pripyat in the north of the Ukrainian SSR. It is considered the worst nuclear disaster in history and is one of the only two nuclear energy disasters rated at seven – the maximum severity – on the International Nuclear Event Scale, the other being the 2011 Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster in Japan.

About 49,000 people were evacuated from the area, primarily from Pripyat, leaving everything behind. Today, the remains of once a modern city are still visible.

These images were shot using an infrared dslr camera with a spectrum of 550 nanometer. With this technique, trees, leaves and mosses are turning red, accentuating that nature is taking over, despite the presence of radiation in the soil below.

Location: You will find 3 off these pictures on the 1st floor in the studio, you can ask on of our lovely staff to have a look.
